BREAKING NEWS - Ipsos-Reid Poll Shows BC Liberals Popularity Rising

Shawn Manhole, Senior Political Analyst for this intrepid Poly exclaimed, "Trust me, I know a good poll and this one is even BETTER than the one I enjoyed last month!"

From Ipsos-Reid: Labour Peace Pays Dividends For BC Liberals [and] Gordon Campbell's Approval (52%, up 8 points) at Highest Point Since 2001; Approval of Carole James (53%, down 4 points Continues to Slip

Both Vaughn "Carole, Please Stop Calling Me" Palmer and Michael "Dancin' Machine" Smyth comment on the poll, however, because they are capitalist bastards, you have to pay or hack into the section (which would be wrong...) to read their musings online. Or just read the freebe Victoria Times Colonist.
Now add to this that Premier Gordon “I So Totally Rule” Campbell and Health Minister George “The Ladies Man” Abbott have announced today (Thursday) the construction of a new outpatient hospital in Surrey, and the lovefest should continue! More details to follow…

I have to be honest Poly and Edward, this BC Liberals good, Dippers bad stuff is getting a bit old.

Let's be honest for a moment. Good or bad, the BC Liberal Party, when it comes down to it, is the "We're not the NDP Party." It's a coalition of necessity more than anything else.

Getting passionate about defeating the NDP, that's pretty easy. But getting passionate about a watered down coalition of Liberals and Conservatives, not so much.

The only people who can really get really fired up for the BC Liberal Party are people who are intimately connected to the party somehow (i.e., getting paid, or related to someone getting paid)

Not saying that you're not doing good work. I'd just suggest mixing things up a little.

It would make the blog a more interesting read.

I like the BC Liberals more than any federal party. They are certainly a party all to their own. 51% is amazing!

Wow. Gord must be happy. His hard work paid off. Maybe now people are seeing that the tough desissions were the right ones.
Thanks for bringing Carole into the house Gordo!!

Gord's hard work consisted of throwing one million tax dollars to get labour agreements, not counting the cost of the agreements. Mike Smythe of the Province sort of summed it up this morning. The interest rates continue to rise as inflation, so lets' check again in a few months. By gosh Gordo has risen to less than the opposition leader whom most folks say nobody knows. something strange here

Things are certainly going well for the BC Liberals and they seem to be reaping the rewards for their efforts from 2001-2005. My only question is how much higher can they go in the polls?

Hi Gordo, if you policies are keeping some folks happy, and George Abbott keeps telling us under your leadership that BC has the best system in the universe. How come your Deputy Minister of Health just walked away. No departure settlement,no advance notice, no obvious replacement, she went because your health policies stink. The cabinet simply can't see the benefit fo people who don't always agree with their right of center thinking

Polls are things dogs piss on.I do notice the Oppositio leader who some folks say nobody knws, still gets higher ratings han Billion dollar bonuses. Sure the unions took it, they would be fools not to. Let's see just how log that love in lasts.

12:45 sort has a one track mind and it's against teachers of course.

Deputy Ministers especially ones that last for quite awhile and have worked for both parties don't suddenly get up one morning and decide , today is the day I throw away my job. Mike smythe mentioned today she will be difficult to replace. Her ex minister boss isn't saying anything, and for him that is really unusual. I guess he's waiting for Gordo to tell him what to do next

The Gordy Government has done an excellent job, but at 51% or so, they are close to peaking and one day it will be a downhill slide.

The Gordomatic will lose support
sometime between now and late 2008.

Happened before and will again.

Wow! I said I'd believe it when I see it, and I do believe we have a Nostradamus among us.

"The Gordomatic will lose support
sometime between now and late 2008."

Really??? I have another prediction! Between now and late 2008 we'll have 2 more budgets. I hope I'm right.

Fact is support ebbs and flows. 51% to 35% is great news for the BC Liberals and horrible news for the NDP. That is a 16 point gap they have to over come.

And has anyone read the Ipsos report. 76% is respondent who identified themselves as BC Liberal supporter cited Gordon Campbell's leadership as a prerequiste for their support.

And whoever is arguing that Carole James is at least more popular than Campbell, give your head a shake. Campbell is up 8 points(52% ahead of his party) , James is down 5 points (53%). That is 1% difference in a poll that has margin of error of plus/minus 3.5%. FYI, that is considered a statistical tie.

All the good news is BC Liberal. You lefty socialists should learn to deal with it.

Folks, keep in mind that we're talking about a guy who once blew a 20 point lead in the space of four weeks.

Throw a charismatic NDP leader and a disaffected right-wing into the mix and you could see the NDP taking the West Annex next time.

Nostradamus said. Is smoking something. I was one of the folks that answeed that poll. It had more twists and turns and talked about James, Campbell, the teachers, Harper, and a host of other things. Did I support Campbell. get real. So many of the questions were slanted and not to the left.

The poll that counts in the polling booth one. When folks start to realize the cost overuns on so many projects such as the circus of the Olympics, highway changes, millions for a weather station to get you to Whistler quicker, if you can afford to get there. The massive costs of a line to the airport, when a train line has been going close to there for years. The mind boggles.

I can assure Anonymous 4:59pm that I wasn't smoking anything. Drugs cloud my ability to see the future.

So you were sampled in the Ipsos Reid poll? I like how the poll makes no sense when it is good news for the BC Liberals. Are you going to be praising Ipsos when it shows an uptick in NDP support?

See I think you missed my point, and correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't say 76% of all respondents supported Gordon Campbell. I said 76% those who identified themselves as BC Liberal supporters in the poll said their support was contingent on Gordon Campbell being the leader.

Now judging by your rantings, such as the Olympic and "highway changes" (heaven forbid someone doesn't want people idling in their cars polluting our environment), I'm taking you probably said you supported the NDP. So, I'm not surprised you don't like Campbell. That doesn't make the Ipsos-Reid poll any less impressive.

I really enjoy some person ( 7.06)who decides one is NDP because they mention the great amount of tax dollars involved in the Olympic overuns, and security isn't even figured in beyond a small percentage of those earlier games. Road costs that are massive and not supported by a number of Municipal government's getting squeezed. Are they all NDP too? I rahter doubt Sam Sullivan and council is NDP? but I digress. It's a shell game for sure and we end up carrying the can. Liking the liberals or not is not really the issue. It's the clowns selected to run something they can't seem to control.Put there by the Liberals. When expo came around the team selected were as bad. Patterson( definitly NDP) took over and fired them all, the games made money.

NO 7.06 just becasue folks don't agree with you doesn't mean they are wrong, or left wing. They can count. They see their tax dollars being spent foolishly. They see olympic spending being shown as something else. They see the Fed.Gov. sending in some acounting firm to try to figure out where the cash is going and are the fed willing to put in more of our dollars. Last time I looked the fed. government was being run by a right winger.

"Really??? I have another prediction! Between now and late 2008 we'll have 2 more budgets. I hope I'm right."

Nothing there, easy to figure out.

Fact is support ebbs and flows. 51% to 35% is great news for the BC Liberals and horrible news for the NDP. That is a 16 point gap they have to over come.

That's a 16% gap they have to overcome right now.

it will change over time, and the gap will narrow.

It's funny how the BC Liberal hacks are bouncing between the walls now, with the polls up, but when the polls are on the other end, it's

"We don't take any direction from polls. The only one that counts is on election day"

How many times have we been through this before.

Campbell blew the 1996 election, threw it away, and in 2005, lost quite a bit of support.

But he'll win re-election in 2008,
but it won't be with a 51% support base in the polls. It will be closer to 38 to 42%, with the NDP not far behind (James will since long be gone as leader).

What this does prove, as do many of the comments here, that bald-faced lying and censorship of fact is the only way the corporate right-wing can survive.

Four points:

Adolph Hitler, at the high of his regime's brutality, enjoyed general public support. That was also was true for Joseph Stalin, Pinochet, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, the Apartheid regime in South Africa, Marcos, etc.

Why? Becasue they either outright controlled or where supported by the corporate media monopolies that carefully censored information, and reported in ways to these regimes' favour.

For example, Statistics Canada and numerous other economic watchdog agencies show a much different, and clearly more factual, take on BC now.

BC leads in overall poverty and homelessness, the worst consumer savings, highest consumer debt (mostly working lcass people), increasingly expensive and inadequate education, health and social services and the worst environmental conditions.

Yet this is being fraudulently called a "boom."

In fact the only thing keeping BC out of a total crash is the 40-year-low interest rates that make it easy to borrow, and 30-year high energy and base commodity rates across the globe.

Statscan also shows that in the 1990s, BC enjoyed the best overall job creation and wage rates, best public services, lowest poverty rates and record consumer spending becasue of this.

And this was despite low global base commodity rates, stifling high interest rates, repeated US government imposed quotas of BC lumber and huge transfer funding cuts by the federal Lieberals.

Yet this is called the "dismal decade."

Why such an unrealistic view? Because the three largest media monopolies are controlled by staunch Liberals, who clearly have no interest in honest reporting or factual or even mildly balanced coverage.

Ipsos polling has shown that a majority of BC ers don't see themselves as better off now than in the 1990s--and with good reason. The info shows they aren't.

But you never get to see this anywhere in the corporate media. It's all lies about "booms" and "olympics." I notice even this fraudulent bogus "carbon tax" that does nothing to address climate change and a lot to pay for the Lieberals' huge pork chop hand-out to big oil companies to keep right on polluting, is quickly starting to get back-seat coverage.

People only respond to polls based on information, or in this case, misinformation, that is readily available to them.

The truth is information wise BC now is not much different than living under a police state.

One last thing, I really enjoyed this idiotic comment:

"Its amazing how populatr a government can be when it doesn't lick the backside of the BC Fed"

Funnjy,a nd typical.

THe truth is the BC Fed is a democratic organization of workers. Its leaders are elected and subject to all sorts of criticism and scrutiny in spirit of mutual respect and support, known as solidarity. The NDP has a similar democratic structure.

The Lieberals and their elite corporate backer are profiteering top-down tyrannies, which thrive on culture of people "licking the backside" and performing fellatio on the bosses in the hope of getting ahead.

"Licking the backside" is exclusively a right-wing corporate value, appropriate to the Lieberals, not a socialist value.
