Jinny Simprano and the BCTF - a Mob Story

The BCTF has failed in an attempt to shake down four law abiding teachers. In a scene reminiscent of a mob movie or TV series, "Don" Jinny Sims "Simprano" ordered one of her Nicola Valley Teacher Chapter captains - Ralph "Click Here To Email Me" Poynting - to collect payment of salary received when the four teachers crossed the picket lines during the illegal strike in September 2005.
"Yeah, well dose dirty rats will pay," Tony "The Bedwetter" Screwuovery a BCTF capo told us. "Day broke da golden rule, don't cross da boss! Now Jinny's pissed."
So angry in fact, that Jinny and the BCTF family ordered the four teachers be "whacked" - a BCTF term for being declared "members in bad standing".
"Dats right! We took away one of da greatest privileges in life - the ability to vote at union meetings or buy dare way up the union ladder during our gatherings...or as we call 'em, "elections"."
This must mean that these four brave, law abiding teachers no longer have to pay dues, right?
"No way!", Screwuovery exclaimed. "All teachers get taxed by da Boss - or as yous call it "dues". Dez dues are paid to Jinny out of fear...er, respect so we can fund slanderous third party campaign advertising, pay fines for illegal strikes or complete Jinny's Mercedes class size and bank account composition requirements. Dis is a good ting."
However, this plan did not work. Reports in publications, but namely this Poly Blog, has shone a bright light on the questionable activities of the BCTF. As such, Jinny and her goons had to back down from their demands.
"Dats true...for now. But somebody has to pay for ratting us out to da press. Don Jinny always says no one talks to da press but her. So, if dem teachers ain't gonna pay, den da students will."
What does dis, I mean this mean?
"Dis means we may not help out with sports or grads or sometin'. Remember, if da teachers don't obey her, da students will pay!"
This seems rather heavy handed that Jinny and the BCTF would strike out against students.

"You tink so? Well, you ain't seen nuttin' yet. I should tell you about "Operation Don't Sign the Contract On Time So Teachers Do Not Get The Bonus Money and We Can Shut The Schools Down Again In September". Or as we call it, the 'BCTF 2006 Mission Statement'."

But, by you talking to the Poly - are you not going against Jinny's wishes, namely to not speak with the press?
"Oh boy..."

Teachers need new representation. They need to open their classroom doors and Yell "I have had enough and I'm not going to take it anymore"
Why do they allow Jinny Simprano to manipulate them so?????
I don't understand.

It is too bad that Jin is making teachers in to political union activist and not the Professionals they are.

It is time ALL the stakeholder work together so our children don't suffer any more.

Wow! This is so fresh and new, not!

It's been said before and I'll say it again now, teachers voted for Jinny Sims. If the teachers don't want her, they'll get rid of her. Until then, lets move on to something new.

To whoever it is who publishes this blog, watch out.

Don't you know that satirical use of the Sopranos theme leads to
accusations of racism
? ;)

Jinny Sims might soon be tearing off a page of the Joe Volpe playbook, and make references to the "BC Liberal Klan"

To those who keep making this repeated statement of the "poor law-abiding teachers" being bullied by the big bad BCTF, I think a reminder is in order that the 2001 Campbell government law making teaching an essential service (Bill 18) and thereby taking away the right to strike was itself in violation of international labour law, as noted by the International Labour Organization:

Recalling that the right to strike is one of the essential means through which
workers and their organizations may promote and defend their economic and social
interest [see Digest, op. cit., para. 475], the Committee concludes that the provisions of
GB.286/11(Part I)
GB286-11(Part I)-2003-03-0226-1-EN.Doc 67
Bill No. 18 which make education an essential service are in violation of freedom of
association principles and should be repealed.

Gordon Campbell the bully makes illegal laws to get what he wants. Unions are one of the best methods we have to stand up to tyrant employers. Jinny Sims is not a gangster. She is standing up for principles that are enshrined by the United Nations.

Jinny is a putz who teachers did not vote for. Union reps voted for her. My guess is that if someone did an opinion poll of BC teachers that her approval rating would not be that much higher our Presidential friend down south.

The way I hear it, the local passed out the suspentions not the Leader of that union. Thye had recived legal advice that it would stand in court, but the local did it anyway. Hate unions, stories always seem to get you folks going but try soemtimes to use a few facts.Sure there are teachers who don't like thier union, every union has some, but do tehy do anything about it? Hell no, it's more fun to bitch. Do the take the benefits and the raise? of course.

Yeah, but Jinny sent a letter HERSELF to this teacher asking her to fork over her hard earned pay. She can dance around that all she wants, but those are the FACTS.

Hate to break this to you Mike, but we live in British Columbia in Canada where we come under British Columbian and Canadian laws.
The teachers(felons) broke the law, simple as that.

What was it that Ms. Chritopherson(sp) said. Something about "how can I teach my children to obey the law when I don't obey it myself".

Horny Toad

What gets me is that Jinny told them to break the law and they followed like sheep.
Only 4 crossed the picket line!
Lets see her do that with the contract negotiations. Money, I think, will talk louder than the 4 day vacation on strike pay.
Jinny is in for a shock if she doesn't deliver the Plazma Bonus!

I would much rather have children understand the concept of a just society that values human rights than to just simply be obedient followers. There have been many laws throughout history that in hindsight we would say were not reasonable and should be challenged. How many people here would have been fond followers of the Nuremberg Laws in Nazi Germany? The rights we do have now have been the result of struggle against power, not because of the grace of benevolent dictators.

These laws were made up on the spot because the Campbell government did not want to go through the established procedures of diplomatic negotiation. That is not the purpose of our legislators. Just because the ILO decision is not binding does not take away its value as a measure of how these laws were treading on people's rights. "You can't make me, so I won't do it," is not a very mature position to take, especially not for a government leader.

Obviously, Mike considers stripping four law abiding teachers of their rights FOR OBEYING THE LAW the hallmark of a just society.

And I find it rather amusing that he talks about teaching children not to simply be "obedient followers" when it is apparent that the BCTF does not tolerate dissent among its own members.

Hate to break it to you folks, but an increase in wages and benefits is not a "civil right." It is not something you are automatically entitled to. And to claim that your struggle for your own financial self-interest is in any way analogous to the struggles of people like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. is to spit in the face of their legacy and their fight against a real injustice.

The fact that you see it fit to trample on the rights of your own members, that you see it fit to allow injustice to rule in your own ranks reveals just how hollow and utterly meaningless your own rhetoric really is.

It is about bloody time the government finally worked up the courage to end mandatory membership in the BC Teachers Federation, as soon as is humanly possible.

Leave it to "Mike" to take this debate to the ridiculous.

Anyone who tries to equate teachers who follow the law to people who blindly followed Hitler and his Holocaust is a raving lefty lunatic.

Why is it everytime the Left start to lose a debate they pull out Hitler or the Holocaust.

The two are not comparable. Making teaching an essential service is not the same as brutally murdering millions of innocent Jewish people.

My two cents, lets keeps the Nuremburg Law rhetoric to a minimum. I'd hate to have to start rolling out the comparison between the BCTF and Stalin-era communism

To those of you who believe Sims will take a hit if the signing bonus is lost, I think you are right. The number of anonymous posts at this blog lead me to believe there are many teachers disillusioned with present BCTF "leadership." Moreover, I don't believe confrontation ever wins in public service. The BCTF needs to drop its antagnostic attitude and work for its teachers.
